Nikon F3 Prices 2008

This is written from a UK perspective although US and Worldwide prices tend to be similar.

2009 UPDATE for F3 and F3HP

In synopsis expect to pay between $100 and $800 for a standard F3/F3HP depending on quality. The lower end being BGN (heavily scratched brassed dented workhorses with wonky meters) to the higher end Boxed Unused Mint.

A Good condition lightly used F3HP should set you back say $400-500. Personally I would budget around $450 for a nice lightly used no scratches dents F3HP in good working condition. This means a camera that on first critical glance looks for all intents and purposes minty.

Your average (EXC) F3HP I’d pay between $200 and $350 but towards the lower end.

Anything Trashy $200 generally maximum for an F3HP.

Subtract 25% for F3 (DE-2) i.e. non HP - this is only available for the basic model.
Add 50% for F3AF
Add 100% for F3T (75% if Black)
Add 150%-200% for F3P (rarely found in MINT condition)
Add 500% for F3L, F3 Classic, other F3 (although due to rarity prices might be considerably higher) - these tend almost without exception to be in the MINT category

Recent eBay price for buy it now mint condition F3L was US $2,850.00 (August 2009)

BGN $100 or so but likely to be heavily brassed and dented although functional (non HP versions usually at this price) and in very poor to poor condition and perhaps non-functioning meter

EXC $200-350 a reasonable condition F3 without dents and perhaps a little brassing working (including meter) - basically your average condition F3

EXC++ $400-450 in near mint condition

MINT $500-600 holding its value and I never expect to see much cheaper than this ever for a Mint example as these will become increasingly rarer - an investment? Perhaps. You could always sell lilely without a loss.

Prices (in USD) range from $200 - $800 for common components and $800-$2000+ for rarities.

A standard Prism (non HP DE-2) functional F3 in poor condition at best reaches a few hundred dollars, and an HP (DE-3) prism F3 a little (25-50%) more. As condition increases so does price. While a Boxed mint F3HP (old user stock) can reach around $700-$800 you will expect to pay nearer $300-400 for a fair-good condition F3HP, $500-600 for mint.

F3P and F3/T prices are 50%-100% higher (especially the Champagne Variant). F3P is scarcer.

A mint boxed unused champagne F3/T or F3P can fetch several thousand dollars. If you can find one.

The F3AF fetches prices not to dissimilar to the F3HP.

The F3 Limited is… not so easy to find but expect to pay prices in excess of a champagne F3/T in similar condition.

The F3H and the F3/T Classic are exceedingly rare and would be expected to fetch several thousand dollars, certainly more than a mint example of the other specialized models.

THIS IS ONLY A GUIDELINE!

  3. I’ve an F3P I’d previously been considered selling, but I think in a few years good condition ones will start to appreciate nicely. Anyway, it’s an lovely camera to use that I’m quite attached to, getting rid would be very hard!

I would have thought that a F3T would be worth quite a bit more though.

  4. I think the F3P is actually somewhat rarer even than the “champagne” F3T and as such you will obtain a premium for this. As F3P were the “Press” version most are in pretty poor condition - this makes a good condition P worth quite a bit.
